2007 Chieftain - DONALD COMRIE
Born and bred in Crieff, Donald was educated at Crieff Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, he started his Scouting career at the age of eight as a Wolf Cub leading on to the Scouts with the 5th Perthshire (Crieff) Scout Troop. After leaving the Group in his late teens, he returned as Cub Scout Master in 1965 and held this post until September 1975, when he was invited to take over the position of District Commissioner in charge of Groups in Comrie Crieff , Ardvreck, Morrison's Academy , Muthil and Auchterarder. In June 1979 Donald returned to the 5th Perthshire (Crieff) Group as Assistant Cub Scout Leader until June 1985 when he decided to return to District level as Commissioner again. In February 1993 he returned to the 5th Perthshire (Crieff) Group, this time as Assistant Scout Leader until in December 1998, after thirty three (33) years of service to the scouting movement, he decided to hang up his woggle and retire from the Crieff Group.
On his retiral at Group level,
he was made an Honorary Scouter with Perth and Kinross and now acts as Camp
Visitor for the area. He was awarded the Long Service Medal in 1988, The
Silver Acorn for Special Distinguished Service in 1989, the Bar to the Long
Service Medal in 1993and the Bar to the Silver Acorn for further Distinguished
Service in 2000.
The directors of CHG Ltd. would
like to present the plans of what could be achieved for Crieff and district
by moving to a new green field site that would be about 400yds from the existing
Market Park. A new purpose built facility would provide a larger area than
is available at the current market Park and would include the grandstand
complex that would provide covered seating for 350 people. Note that the
actual arena would be built with a banking around it that would be 2.2 metres
above the pitch at the top, hence retaining the 'amphitheatre' feel and enhancing
the viewing area greatly. The provision of four changing rooms, referees
room, with all toilets and showering, as well as cooking facilities make
this a very efficient and attractive building. A practice football/rugby/other
training pitch is included and the whole thing would bring a facility to
Crieff that would otherwise be unattainable.
Please take some time to study the plans and let us know what you think. The board feels that this would be a very positive move for Crieff and would ask site visitors to comment with their views on this proposal, and indeed with any other general comments or feedback on Crieff Highland Games.
